We have written in our dance blog before about the correlation between ballet and fashion and we were delighted to see that there is so much crossover being reported on again! If you have ever seen a traditional ballet either in person or on screen, the attention to detail in the costumes is always stunning, and modern ballets continue to transform and excite new audiences with their fashion forward approach to this old dance discipline.

There were three great stories recently reported on that we would like to share with you:

  • The Royal Opera House’s Window Display of Quirky Ballet Shoes
  • The Vampire’s Wife Collaborates with Royal Ballet for Ecommerce Experience
  • Tulle and ballet-esque fashion is trending again

Quirky Ballet Shoes on Show at the ROH

The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London, is one of the world’s best places to see a ballet and the home of the Royal Ballet. This summer they had some great ways to engage with the public including the creation of a Pointe Shoe window. The offered a range of different British fashion designers the opportunity to re-imagine and design on the top of a traditional ballet point shoe. Designers who got involved included Simone Rocha, who used her trademark faux pearls as embellishments, and famous department store Liberty who wrapped theirs in ribbon. A stunning display for everyone to see and celebrate the ballet shoe!

The Vampire’s Wife and The Royal Ballet

The Vampire’s Wife is a clothing brand that has gone from strength to strength in the past few years, with its great brand name and Gothically romantic style, add to that the head designer is a baller fanatic, it did not take long for these worlds to collide in a fashion forward way. Throughout Covid Lockdowns when many in the entertainment industry were not able to work, this forward-thinking brand invited members of the Royal Ballet, to film an ecommerce experience for her customers. She notes how this ballet/fashion collab was able to showcase her clothes in a completely new and unique way.

Ballet-Esque is the Next Fashion Trend

Fashion moves at pace, and while many of us are just getting our heads around Cottagecore, the fashion designers and influencers have moved on and ballerina-esque fashion is the latest trend we are delighted to see coming our way. While ballet flats have been a thing for a while, they are now a real trend, and tulle is having a comeback, but paired with woolly jumpers and doc martins!

Ballet and Fashion a Powerful Combo

We love ballet, this art form continues to inspire other dancers, fashion designers and storytellers across the world and we love to see what they come up with.
